During World War II, many Australians of Japanese descent were summarily arrested and held in Australian concentration camps for the duration of the war. Often their livelihood was destroyed and they were subsequently unable to rebuild their lives. Others were repatriated to a Japan they had never seen.
For the first time, Unwanted Aliens recounts the story of their arrest and internment, including life in the camps and after the war. The author has traced their history from earlier migration to Australia until the present. They were penalised by laws, policy and procedures that were enacted and carried out on a purely racial basis in what was still regarded as 'White Australia'
