Ferry, John

John Ferry has a PhD in History and teaches at the University of New England. His special research interests are in local history, family histories and Aboriginal history. He has published a history of the town of Walgett in northern New South Wales and a children’s book on Aboriginal culture. He is currently writing a history of three generations of the Dangar family, well know nineteenth century pastoralists, and co-authoring a book on internal migration in eastern Australia. His most recent publication with UQP, Colonial Armidale (1999) offers a social history of nineteenth century Australia, using Armidale as a typical example of a rural town.
