Stewart, Robin

Robin Stewart was born in Melbourne. She trained as a primary school teacher and says she “possesses a strong affinity with children as well as animals and has enjoyed a long working relationship with both”. Robin and her husband lived for seven years on King Island, in Bass Strait, where they owned a sheep property and established a penguin-banding program on their coastline. They have also successfully bred Irish Setters and Great Danes. In 1990 the Stewarts moved to Victoria, where they own an Angus cattle stud. Robin combines her writing and love of animals with work as a literary tutor at TAFE College, Shepparton. Moonbird was published by UQP in 1995.

Picture of Moonbird
Jerry's comfortable world is shattered when his father dies suddenly and his mother decides to take up the offer of a vacant cottage at Great-Uncle Albert's farm on rugged King Island, in Bass Strait. However, to Jerry's surprise, he feels instantly drawn to "Pop", and through the old man he comes to love the beauty of the island, the farm and the mutton-birds that breed there. And when Jerry meets a special mutton-bird chick he calls "Venus", his life takes on a whole new meaning.
