Zervos, Komninos

Komninos, a true bard and troubadour, is Australia’s leading performance poet and has been entertaining audiences all over Australia since the 1980s. He was an instant hit on the great outback Writers’ Train in 1990, and his poeting has been featured on radio and television. His poems and word-plays are riotous, delicate, political and powerful. His collection Komninos (UQP 1991) was accompanied by photographs of the poet in action. It won the Australian Human Rights Awards for Literature and Other Writing, Poetry Award, in 1991. The follow-up was the collection Komninos by the Kupful, which was published by UQP in 1995.

Komninos By The Kupful

Picture of Komninos By The Kupful
Leading performance poet Komninos writes for stage, street and classroom in a language of deadly humour and infectious rhythms. Following on from his book komninos (1991) with the ever popular poems "baby wrap" and "high street, kew east", this new volume confirms the steady aim of the true bard and troubador. "His use of language is a delight of delicacy and power, zany word-play and zippy rhythm structures." Fran Voss, Examiner (Launceston) "... a wicked, street-wise wit to be savoured." Kevin Brophy, Australian Book Review
