Gee, Valda

In 1987 Valda Gee completed a bridging course with the University of Tasmania and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Aboriginal Studies. Valda is a president of the Exeter (Tas.) Elderly Citizens Club and is a former committee member of the Aboriginal Child Care Association (Tas.). Valda wrote The Sausage Tree with her sister Rosalie Medcraft. It won the 1994 David Unaipon Award for unpublished Indigenous writers, and was published by UQP in 1995. Rosalie and Valda are descendants of Manalargenna, who was the leader of the Trawlwoolway people in the Cape Portland area of north-east Tasmania.
