Berolah, Lorraine

Lorraine Berolah was born on Thursday Island but spent much of her childhood in Mackay, Queensland. Her mother has ties to Boigu Island and her father’s family originated from Darnley Island. She identifies with Asian as well as Torres Strait cultures; her mother’s father was Japanese and both her parents are Malaysian descendents, as well as Torres Strait. Lorraine speaks and understands Creole, the indigenous language of Thursday Island. Lorraine co-wrote Betty and Bala and the Proper Big Pumpkin (UQP 1996) with LilyJane Collins and Noel Cristaudo.
