Geoffrey Stokes is a former reader in the Department of Government at the University of Queensland and Director of the Centre for Democracy. He is currently a Professor and Chair of Research Priority Area in Politics and Policy at Deakin University. He teaches social and political theory, and researches in the areas of democratic theory, citizenship, and Australian political thought. His published works include, as editor, Australian Political Ideas (1994) and The Politics of Identity in Australia (1997), and as co-editor, April Carter Liberal Democracy and its Critics (1998). He is also the author of Popper: Philosophy, Politics and Scientific Method (1998). Governing Change: Keating to Howard, co-authored with Carol Johnson, was published by UQP in 1999. Geoffrey Stokes also co-edited, with Michael Leach and Ian Ward, The Rise and Fall of One Nation (UQP 2000). He is the editor of a new volume, Citizenship and Australian Democracy, to be released by UQP later in 2003.
