Dimity Dornan graduated as a Speech Pathologist in the first year the course was offered at the University of Queensland. After practising in various hospitals, and many years research for the Department of Medicine, University of Queensland, she works in Private Practice in Brisbane. Her special interest is in hearing-impaired pre-schoolers and their parents, and she works in liaison with The Shepherd Centre, University of Sydney. She has lectured for some years at the University of Queensland in this area, and is the author of several journal articles. Dimity has travelled widely within Australia and overseas with her physiotherapist/sculptor/author husband. The Petrie Family (UQP 1992), co-authored with Denis Cryle, is her first sortie into biographical writing, and developed from a research project for her husband’s sculpture of the family.
