Michael Heyward co-founded the literary magazine Scripsi, which he edited until 1990 when he took up a two-year Harkness Fellowship in New York. During the 1980s, he also taught at Melbourne University, worked as a radio broadcaster for the ABC and as a freelance journalist. In 1989 he founded the Picador Poetry imprint for Pan Macmillan; his current position is commissioning editor for The Text Publishing Company. He has written for a wide range of publications including The Washington Post, The New Republic, Scripsi, The Age and The Australian. He is married to Penny Hueston and has three children. The Ern Malley Affair (UQP 1994) is an intriguing investigation into one of the biggest hoaxes in the history of Australian literature.
