Jena Woodhouse, born in 1949, grew up in coastal rural Queensland, graduating with first class honours in Russian Language and Literature from the University of Queensland. She has worked as a book editor and language teacher. Her poetry has received several awards, including the FAW John Shaw Neilsen Award and the Rothmans Foundation Prize, and has been published in numerous Australian literary journals. Her first volume of poems, Eros in Landscape, was published in 1989 and her young adult novella, Metis, The Octopus and the Olive Tree, was published in 1993. In 1994 she published another volume of poetry, Passenger on a Ferry. Jena has travelled extensively, particularly in Greece where she lives and works for prolonged periods, and her experiences are reflected in her writing.
