Budge Wilson was born in the Annapolis Valley, spent some years in Peterborough, Ontario and now lives in Nova Scotia. She has written many books for children and young adults including A House Far from Home, Mystery Lights at Blue Harbor, Thirteen Never Changes, Lorinda’s Diary, Oliver’s Wars, Mr John Bertrand Nijinsky and Charlie, The Best Worst Christmas Present Ever and Breakdown. She has also illustrated several picture books. My Cousin Clarette and Other Stories (UQP 1994) was originally published as The Leaving in Canada. It won numerous awards including the Canadian Library Association Award for Best Young Adult Novel (1990), the Horn Book Fanfare (US), Best Book for Young Adults from the American Library Association, and the Marianna Dempster Award from the Canadian Authors Association.
