Ron Edwards was born in Geelong, Victoria and gained his Diploma of Art at the Swinburne Institute of Technology. In 1951, with John Manifold, he published Bandicoot Ballads, which sparked a revival of interest in the Australian folk song. Since then he has published a number of works on the subject under the imprint of Rams Skull Press, which he founded in 1952. His works include The Overlander Song Book, Australian Folk Songs, Australian Traditional Bush Crafts, and the Big Book of Australian Folk Song. In 1959 he moved to North Queensland and now lives in Kuranda, so many of his yarns have a northern flavour. His book, The Australian Yarn: the definitive collection, was published by UQP in 1996. Ron is a skilled leatherworker and his books on leathercraft are considered authoritative sources across Australia. He is also a talented artist; his paintings and sketches are housed in many respected collections.
