Irmtraud Petersson was born in Germany and came to Australia in 1984. She received an MA (1966, Universität München) and a PhD (1988, University of Queensland), specialising in Australian literature. She has published several articles on Australian fiction, the monograph German Images in Australian Literature (1990), and co-edited (with Laurie Hergenhan) an anthology of Australian travel writing, Changing Places: Australian Writers in Europe 1960s-1990s (1994). She now teaches part-time at the University of Queensland. She has been an editorial assistant of ALS and one of the compilers of the ‘ALS Annual Bibliography of Studies in Australian Literature’ since 1989. And What Books Do You Read was co-edited with Martin Duwell and published by UQP in 1996.
