Jill Roe is a professor of Modern History at Macquarie University, Sydney. She is also Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia, President of the Australian Historical Association, and Chair of the Editorial Board, Australian Dictionary of Biography, for which she prepared the entry on Franklin. She edited My Congenials, Miles Franklin and Friends in Letters 1879-1954, 2 vols. (1993), and is currently writing Franklin’s biography. Her most recent publication with UQP is A Gregarious Culture: Topical Writings of Miles Franklin (2001), co-edited with Margaret Bettison.
